So, today's outfit post was taken before I went on holiday and I didn't have a chance to post it. It's fair to say it's a bit different to my usual style. However, it was probably the perfect injection of colour to break me out of my 'all-black' mentality before going away, I hope you like it...
So, one of the cool things about blogging is that occasionally you have the opportunity to try clothes from different brands and this can be an awesome opportunity to be a bit brave and give new things a try. In this case, the item I originally asked for wasn't available and I was sent something else as a replacement that to be quite honest I didn't have a clue what to do with. A bodycon, brightly printed midi dress is out of many of my comfort zones, but I'm not averse to a challenge so I did what I could to feel more comfortable wearing something so out of my depth. One of the cool things about a bodycon midi dress is that you can roll it under to make it into a mini, which is slightly more flattering on my figure. The Barbie print of the dress is such a statement in itself, so I kept it simple and accessorised with some of my favourite jewellery and my monster truck boots to try and encorporate something closer to a style I'm comfortable with: the result is still more 'me' than I would have hoped possible. I did stick on a slick of pink lipstick too, as every blonde should probably have a 'Barbie' moment once in her life at least! Find this outfit on Lookbook here...
It's definitely worth stopping buy the OMG Fashion website as there's some really cool clothing on there at really affordable prices - and the package it came in was pink. That's about all it takes to please me, to be honest! Do you ever take risks and wear things out of your comfort zone? I'm such a creature of habit and I know I need to break out of that..!
Hi lovelies, I am back from holiday - did you miss me? I'm feeling great: refreshed and full of inspiration which is such a nice feeling after a really hectic uni year. I've even managed to achieve getting a little pigmentation into my skin that almost resembles a slight tan, so that's great too (it'll be gone by Sunday but still!) I have lots of exciting things coming up for the blog including a review of the Lush Emotional Brilliance range, some gorgeous clothing items from OMG Fashion and Motel Rocks and plenty more playlists and lifestyle posts. However, today I want to share some of my holiday photos with you (I also have some outfit pictures that my awesome friends took for me, but I'll save those for a separate post) as we had some great times and I'd love to share them here. I hope you enjoy the photos!
I also need to pass on my thanks to Keely, Emma, Harley and Louise for their wonderful guest posts and keeping my blog active - one of the first things my mum said to me when I arrived through the front door yesterday evening was "don't worry, they've been looking after your blog for you!" haha, it was so nice of these girls to devote their time to writing something for my little blog and I appreciate it hugely. I loved reading their posts, I hope you did too, and I also love that the posts serendipitously happened to cover the four main aspects of my blog: fashion, illustration, beauty and music. It really couldn't have worked out better!
I will be back soon with the aforementioned posts amongst other things, but until then, I hope you're having a great week!
It's Louise here from Polka Spots and Freckle Dots blogging for Hannah whilst she's away soaking up the sun. I was thrilled when Hannah asked if I would like to do a spot of guest blogging for her as Daisies and Dr Martens is one of my favourite blogs. I of course agreed, happy to give something back to the lovely lady who's supported my blog since it's infancy; so here I am.
Since Hannah is on her holidays, and holiday season is fast-approaching, I've chosen to share some holiday essentials with you today, and a perfect summer ensemble.
A long floaty dress is perfect for wearing in the sunshine, and in my opinion, is an essential summer staple. When I saw this daisy print midi dress by ASOS, I knew this was the dress I had to feature. This dress is beautiful and the daisy print, mostly black billowing fabric, and neckline instantly made me think of Hannah. She would rock this dress!
Being a colour junkie, I would dress it with sunny yellow accessories to bring out the yellow in the daisies. The studded Topshop belt would break up the pattern and add an edge, whilst the amazing Jessica Simpson wedges would help to lengthen and flatter legs. The River Island mosaic bangles add in some more colour and interest to the look. I kept the rest of the outfit simple with all white pieces, including a gorgeous pair of faux Wayfarers which have lace-look arms; a studded white saddle bag which would be a perfect holiday day bag; and a cute white cardigan that could be carried in the bag in case it's needed.
I think this outfit is versatile and could be worn from beach to bar, out sight-seeing, shopping, or dining. Just change the shoes and bag.
Pretty luggage isn't essential, but it sure does help you travel in style- even if you're seated in economy class. Who knows, your stylish luggage could even score you an upgrade!
I adore Cath Kidston luggage and travel accessories, which are pretty, stylish, and great quality. I own rather a lot of Cath Kidston products, and the quality is like no other. This season I particularly love the wild strawberry print, and I can never resist their polka dot designs. When I travel, I use one of their travel wallets and a passport cover to keep all the important documents together, and pop my gadgets in their beautiful cases. Their large suitcases are big enough for a week's holiday, but I also bring my Accessorize travel bag with me on board the plane to take advantage of the cabin baggage allowance. I like to pack an outfit or two in mine along with my travel essentials just in case my suitcase goes missing, and the extra bag allows me to shop more freely while I'm away.
My Holiday / Beach Bag Essentials
No summer holiday would be complete without a well-packed suitcase and beach bag. I like to be prepared, and have particular items which I pack to keep myself entertained, stylish, and well-groomed; which I've shown above. I added the daisy print playsuit, crop top, and skirt for Hannah, as I thought she might like them. Here's a quick explanation of some of my holiday essentials:
20. I added this daisy print crop top for Hannah, as, well, it has daisies on it.
21. As does this cute Floozie beach skirt.
22. And of course, a cute casual day bag is perfect for wearing over sun dresses for shopping and sight-seeing.
And that, in short, is my usual holiday arsenal!
I hope you've all enjoyed this guest post. I've enjoyed blogging for you!
You can find me over at Polka Spots and Freckle Dots where I blog about style, fashion, beauty, body positivity, injury, and life. You can usually find me wearing a dress and rocking a lot of polka dots! I'd love it if you'd stop by and say hello!
Thanks for having me, Hannah, and thanks for reading,
Hello! I'm Harley and I run an eponymous blog. I decided to make my guest post here about something Hannah and I both love: eye makeup!
I recently bought my first Urban Decay eyeshadows and I have been so pleased with them that I simply couldn't resist writing a little review here. After much deliberation I purchased the Ammo 2 palette, a collection of UD's ten top-selling eyeshadows that comes with a mini Primer Potion and a little eyeshadow brush. I thought this was a good introduction to the range, and the colours were unlike anything that I had already.
Aren't they pretty? My favourites are 'Mildew', 'Oil Slick', 'Last Call' and 'Polyester Bride'. Urban Decay re-released this palette following their eyeshadow reformulation, and these are the most beautifully silky eyeshadows I have ever used! I'm in awe at their pigmentation (especially when used wet) and this palette is a perfect everyday collection that can be amped up for evening.
I've never done this before, but in the spirit of guest posting I decided to do a little makeup look with the palette today! I wanted something subtle with a bit of smoke behind it, and used 'Sin', 'Mildew' and 'Oil Slick' to achieve this look:
Please excuse the lack of a full-face picture – I walked past the demolition site next to my work as they were whipping out the pneumatic drill, resulting in a piece of stray dust finding its way into my other eye! >_<' It's decidedly swollen and watering constantly – not the best makeup base.
I'm quite pleased with how this turned out, and as the shadows are so easy to blend that it takes no time at all to do a look with a bit of interest. I used these shadows dry so that the colours were more subtle, but you can intensify them easily for a more dramatic look (which I usually favour). My liquid eyeliner is 17's 'Wet Look' one, and I have Barry M's waterproof kohl liner in 'Gunmetal' underneath my eye at the inner corners.
I hope you enjoyed this post! Many thanks to Hannah and all of you for having me. ^_^
Hi everyone! Emma Margaret here from creative lifestyle blog, These Things. As you all know, Hannah is currently on holiday (are you as jealous as I am?) and she very kindly asked me to do a little guest post for her whilst she's away.
It took me a while to come up with a theme for this post as I know 'Daisies and Dr Martens' is primarily a fashion blog, which definitely isn't my forte! However the biggest thing that me and Hannah do have in common is illustration (we are both on the same uni course). So I thought I'd share with you some of my favourite illustrators, in particular those who run their own little businesses on Etsy.
First up is Ella Masters. Ella runs an Etsy shop, a gorgeous lifestyle blog AND a jewellery company, Ruby Rae Love. I discovered Ella's shop and blog after searching for an at-home screen-printing tutorial, and I've spent hours reading through her blog since then! I love the style of her illustrations, they're full of gorgeous patterns and textures, and the characters in them are great! I particularly love the tattooed lady print and the illustrated tote bags.
Another favourite of mine at the moment is Harriet Gray. As well as her beautiful Etsy shop she also runs a little blog by the same name. Check out her ever-popular Cattoos, which have now been joined by dogs and rabbits as well! I also absolutely love that colourful triangle pattern that she uses to make cushions and gadget cases.
Oana Befort is another extremely talented artist; how beautiful are her paintings? Her colour palettes are gorgeous and I just adore her style in general. As with many of my favourite Etsy sellers, Oana also often posts on her blog, and frequently gives us little glimpses into her sketchbooks which are always beautiful!
The lovely Rachel from ohNOrachio was kind enough to do an interview for my blog a little while ago. Her beautiful Etsy shop is full of illustrated cards, notebooks and china (take a look!). Her blog, ONR is full of lots of lovely DIY posts, including many which cover her favourite topic: succulent planting.
And finally, another wonderful illustrator that was lovely enough to do an interview for my blog was Rhianna Wurman from Ello Lovey. As well as selling beautiful illustrations and cards in her Etsy shop, Rhianna also runs a little project called Doodle a Day. Follow her on Instagram to see a new drawing from her each day of the month!
This is just a tiny fraction of the amazing Etsy shops out there, all of which are a constant inspiration to my own work. Take a look here to see more of my favourites. And I also have my own Etsy shop selling cards, bracelets and prints if you fancy having a look.
Well, thats all for today, I hope you all liked this post and enjoy looking through these lovely shops. Thank you so much for having me here Hannah!
Morning! It's Keely from Another Girl's Paradise posting for Hannah as she has escaped the horrible British weather for sunnier land. I was very excited to be asked to make a guest post as Daisies and DM's is a blog I always read without fail, so thank you Hannah!
I originally planned to make a FOTD playlist post, but as I'm still in my pyjamas I've decided to go for a playlist inspired fashion post. Music is a huge inspiration for me, and the way I like to style myself completely changes depending on what sort of music I'm listening to. I've woken up this morning feeling nostalgic for the sunny days we had a couple of weeks, so my inner hippie wants to come out to play.
If My Heart Should Somehow Stop- James Vincent McMorrow
I first heard James Vincent McMorrow when he supported City and Colour at the Royal Albert Hall gig, and it was love at first listen. I immediately came home and purchased his album and I have so many memories surrounding his music. The entire sound of this album fits very much with the idea of early summer mornings, not to mention his voice is just beautiful.
Welcome To England- Tori Amos
This is another song that just fills me with nostalgia and memories of summer mornings; I think that as sunshine is so rare in Britain, any memories of sunshine instantly brings about a huge amount of nostalgia. I remember the day this song came out, and I was sat doing my make up ready to go to college and when I think of this song I instantly remember the sun shining through the window and highlighting the dust in the air.
God is a DJ- Faithless
A quick jump from summer mornings to summer evenings, I don't know about you, but to me summer evenings are all about good music and good friends; for this I like to throw on some 90s/00s classics! I seem to neglect Faithless for the entire year, but as soon as I see the sun trying to break out I throw on their Greatest Hits album.
I'll Remain Under Our Antique Sky- Owsey
Summer is, of course, all about relaxing. There's nothing more relaxing to me than music by Owsey; it was hard for me to choose one particular song but I opted for this one purely on a whim. If you like this, I'd recommended taking a look at all of his music, and if you want a bit more then youtube Clubroot and CoMa.
Eyes of Heaven- Medwyn Goodall
Bare with me on this whole panpipes thing, but if it's relaxation you're after I swear anything by Medwyn Goodall is what you're looking for. I don't know if I'm alone in this, but if panpipes are good enough for Shakira, they're certainly good enough for me. I think this music was first introduced to me by my Mum when I was little, but it's definitely stuck with me and it really does aid relaxation. I did say my inner hippie likes to come out to play...
Thirst- City and Colour
It's quite simply not a complete playlist by me if I don't include my Dallas fix. I've been hooked on this song, and his album comes out in June, I can tell that this is going to be a huge one for me this summer.
Going back to nostalgia, some of my greatest memories are from a sunny day in Camden before heading off to see City and Colour play live; that's everything I need to put a smile on my face.
Ain't it Fun- Paramore
I've also had Paramore's new album on repeat since it's release, and this song is just really fun and it kind of makes me want to dance really awkwardly. This final song ties everything about my summer style together with that final touch of bright orange that I just can't pull myself away from.
If you combine all of that music, this is the outfit I would come out with!
I've kept the outfit in the neutral colour palette and it's in the accessories, make up and shoes that the fun really happens. It just shows how adaptable a simple outfit like this. You could easily replace the crop top with a cotton jumper when the evenings get chillier, and the lace shorts are ideal if, like me, you're not all that confident in shorts but still want to get some sun on to your pasty legs!
I'm sure I'm not alone in letting music influence my style; if I start my day off with some KoRn or The Pretty Reckless you can guarantee I'll be dressed all in black and have been heavy handed with the black eyeliner. I love that though, music brings out versatility in me and that's something to be embraced.
Before I (finally) stop rambling, Hannah has been kind enough to let me do a little plugging of my own. I'm in the process of self-publishing my first book (having recently dropped out of Uni to pursue the lifestyle of a broke creative- eep!)
The book is a collection of Poetry and Short Stories named "I Haven't Lived At All," I'm aiming for an August release date so any and all support is welcome and appreciated! I'm also looking for book reviewers to send a copy to before the release, so if this is something you'd be interested take a look at this post here.
It'd be really great if you could take a look at my website(s):
Phew, that was all rather link heavy; thank you for letting me do that Hannah!
I hope you've all enjoyed this post, if so feel free to follow me over on my blog! You may recognise the header- it was created by Hannah, hence why it's pretty damn cool!
Thank you for reading, and let me know what inspires your style!
